Advancing Human and Environmental Health

Click on one of the three clusters below to

learn more about our research in these areas.

The Department of Biological Sciences has the mission of advancing human and environmental health at the national and international level through excellence in education and research. In recent years the complexity of research problems in the life sciences has dramatically increased. Human population growth, an increasing influence of humanity on natural systems, emerging disease, and advances in practical and research technologies make problem-solving in biology today both important and exciting. Life sciences in the 21st century also require integrative and collaborative approaches to address these issues.

In the Department of Biological Sciences, we take collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches to research and teaching. Our faculty have diverse interests, but our work to advance human and environmental health is organized around three research clusters: Ecology, Evolution, and Environment (EEE), Cellular and Physiological Dynamics (CPD), and Infectious Disease (ID).
